Steve Jobs (2015) - Review

"Musicians play their instruments. I play the orchestra."

So Steve Jobs is another biopic, but more of a drama, about apple's founder of the same name. This time, Danny Boyle took the helm along with the writer Aaron Sorking (Writer of Social Network too), and the duo really delivered.

Micheal Fassbender plays as Steve Jobs and oh man was he good in his role. A terrific job on Jobs ( :p ) by him, loved his acting. He even tuned his voice to sound more like Jobs' and that really made it feel like you're watching Steve Jobs instead of Micheal Fassbender, now that's how you portray someone. Alongside him, we got a great supporting cast. Kate Winslet was excellent in her role as Steve Jobs' advertising agent, and they had great chemistry. Jeff Daniels was also really great, and so was Seth Rogen, this dude once again proved he can do dramatic roles. Loved him as Steve Wozniak.

Now the movie wasn't a typical biopic. It was wholly comprised of backstage conversations with important people from Jobs' life, moments before some of his biggest reveals like the Mac in 1984. And in these conversations and moments you get snippets of Jobs' history with those people and of his early life. Not only was this refreshing, it was interesting as well. Whole movie is just dialogue after dialogue yet it was really gripping. Great delivery. The editing was amazing, there wasn't a dull moment in the entire movie. And you could really feel that these people had history with each other. The whole two hours flew by and I actually wanted more. Great soundtrack too. It made the whole movie feel more thrilling, especially in some heated dialogue scenes.

As for the movie's faults, well, the movie's different approach left a bit to be desired. It isn't as much of a movie about Jobs' history. Would have liked if first 10-20 minutes had earlier life of Jobs, how created Apple with Wozniak etc.

In the end, I loved this film. Great performances and direction. Even if you don't give a damn about Steve Jobs or Apple, this is still worth a try.

Spartacus is a surprising series for me. I first watched it when there were only two seasons out, and back then it was kinda OK for me. Now, after re-watching the first two seasons along with the rest, I found it to be a pretty good series, great even. The series is about Spartacus and how he journey's from being a free man to a gladiator, and then to a leader. The whole series is structured in such a way that their is an overall forward progression with each season focused on a specific part. This results in focus on each area and ultimately they all come together quite nicely. Also, the series is divided into spartacus' related scenes and the roman leaders etc related scenes, developing both sides, side by side, throughout. This not only makes it easy to develop a large number of characters, it also develops both sides and not making it plain black and white. The Mummy (2017) - Movie Review

You know, I see people saying they're sick and/or tired of the whole shared universe style that has been the craze for the past almost decade or so. But I, personally, still enjoy it. Thing is, there is a correct way of doing it, and then there is a shitty way of doing. I don't know why Universal thought the shitty way was the path to be on. The Mummy should have been a movie about, well, THE MUMMY. But instead, it is an amalgamation of several poorly executed plot threads in an attempt to jump-start the new 'Dark Universe', with one of them being related to The Mummy. John Wick 2 (2017) - Movie Review

John Wick 2 is a sequel to the 2014 surprise hit John Wick, and it follows him as he is forced to return to his former life once again. The trailers did a good job of not giving much away, so I'll keep it vague as well. The first one was great, so naturally, I was hyped for the sequel, and suffice to say it delivered where it mattered.  Keanu Reeves once again reprises the role of ultimate bad-ass assassin John Wick, with different character motivations this time around, resulting in a more subdued performance than last time, which nonetheless works for the story, and it's just great seeing Keanu again in style. There are some familiar faces from the previous film like Ian McShane (Winston) and Lance Reddick (Hotel Manager), giving similarly good performances. And new ones like Laurence Fishburn, resulting in a reunion of Neo and Morpheus, which should make any Matrix fan cheer up inside, and he gave a good performance as well.
