The Jungle Book (2016) - Review

This movie is a live retelling of the classic Jungle Book story. The story follows Mowgli, a young human child, who is being raised by a pack of wolves until a vicious tiger known as Shere Khan intervenes and threatens him, forcing Mowgli to flee. Neel Sethi plays as Mowgli in his first ever film and to me, he was the weakest thing in the movie. Now that isn't to say he was utterly bad or anything, it is just that this being his first film, and the film being completely CGI, asked a lot from him, and you could tell he struggled with it. The performance was good enough that it didn't ruin the movie or anything like that. Also, the kid was up against a full studded cast. The movie features a great A-List cast of voice actors like Ben Kingsley (Voices Bagheera, the panther), Bill Murray (Voices Baloo, the bear), Idris Elba (Voices Shere khan, the tiger), Christopher Walken (Voices King Louie, the giant orangutan) to name a few. And all of them did a terrific job. The onl...

Warcraft (2016) - Review

Warcraft is a video game adaptation of the popular game series of the same name. In order to escape their dying world, the orcs invade the world of Azeroth, while the inhabitants of that world, namely the humans, try to stop their efforts. Now I have never played World of Warcraft or any other game in the franchise except for Warcraft 3, and that too only online matches with my friends, meaning I have little to no knowledge about this universe, its lore, its characters etc. Having said that, I was still interested in watching this movie as I just love fantasy worlds and this looked like another good one. From the very first scene to the very last, this movie was RUSHED AS HELL. There was literally no breathing room, none at all. This is the core reason for all of my problems with the movie. It felt like they had the material to make two movies, or even a trilogy, but crammed it all into one 2 hour long movie. The movie just went from scene to scene, locations to location, witho...

These Final Hours (2013) - Review

I love surprises like this. This is a small budget Australian movie about an end-of-the-world story. A large asteroid impact somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean results in an extinction level wave of destruction making its way across the world. Australia has several hours before it is completely destroyed. People there go bat shit crazy, and amongst the chaos, a self-obsessed man decides to meet the end in an end-of-the-world party but along the way, he finds a little girl and decides to help her, changing him in the process. Nathan Phillips, the lead, did a great job as this lost man in this unreal situation, trying to find an easy way to let it all go and meet the end. The little girl was also really good as lost child trying to get to her father and they both had a nice relationship that grew over the course of the movie and makes you care about both of them. The movie has a somber and hopeless feel/look and the opening scene sets it perfectly. The accompanying score is ...
