The Divergent Series: Insurgent (2015) - Movie Review

Having liked Divergent and its setting, I was really curious to know more about the world they created. Insurgent starts off straight from where Divergent left off. The team is on the run and are looking for some place to lay low. We got another A-list actor in this movie, Naomi Watts, who plays the rebellion leader. So it was Kate Winslet vs Naomi Watts. Her role was wasted in this movie though. Shailene Woodley was again good. I really liked Miles Teller in this. He was again the typical douche bag like he was in the previous film. The story and pacing this time felt a bit more messy because in the previous film, there was this continuous progression that kept the film together. Here, it felt more like a random mix up of high and low points. Now, I'm a sucker for rebellion scenarios and not surprisingly, I liked the said stuff here as well and plot points being associated with it. It did felt a lot similar to Hunger Game: Mockingjay story and I assumed it will progress a cer...

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) - Movie Review

The first part was a surprisingly entertaining film. And I was really looking forward to watching this. The movie starts off right from where the last part left off. The team is out of the maze and are with a group that opposes WCKD. While the first part was more mystery and stuff, this is a more adrenaline-filled action packed entry. The acting felt improved from the last part. So was the cinematography, movie was well shot. The CGI was good, for the most part, too. The Wasteland looked great. And I loved the infected. They really reminded me of the infected from The Last of Us. Same vibes and had similar degree of infection. And scenes involving them were thrilling. Now, the first half of the movie was honestly great. The action was great, the pacing was adrenaline pumping, the escape sequences were well shot and handled and it was just plain entertaining to see the destroyed world and the team trying to survive in it. The second half however kinda bogged down the movie. T...

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (2015) - Review

AH FINALLY!! Here we are at the end of another saga. Been waiting a long time to watch it, and honestly, disappointed by it. So the movie starts from where Mockingjay Part 1 left off and this is where everything has been leading up-to, the fall of the capitol regime on the hands of the united districts. The rebellion aspect of this series has always been my favourite thing about it and there are some pretty great moments regarding it. On the other side, Katniss has to deal with peeta's mental issues and the ongoing love triangle, UGHH, and of course her contribution to the war. Now, performances, like the previous parts, were again mostly great. Jennifer Lawrence again did a great job as Katniss. The points where the movie really shined for me were the war moments, showing both sides, the horrors of it, it was all really good stuff. Like I said before, the rebellion aspect of this series is my favourite thing and when the movie gave me those moments, I loved it. This movie has...

The 5th Wave (2016) - Review

The 5th Wave is a yet another YA novel adaptation and is about a girl trying to survive with her family when human race is devastated by an alien force, attacking in waves of different types of eradication measures. Now, when it comes to movies based on YA novels, I tend to be a lot more lenient than others from what I've seen. And just like that, I watched this movie with an open mind, despite knowing about the horrible critical reception it got. And well, it really is SHIT!! The movie starts off pretty OK, and the whole different waves stuff was kinda cool to see but it lasts for like 10-15 mins, after which the movie nosedives to an ever increasing oblivion of mediocrity. The acting was bad, Chloe Grace Moretz starring in this movie gave me some hope cause I like her but even she was bad. The action sucked, there was no tension whatsoever and it was bland. The pacing was painfully slow, I was bored AF at times. The story was really predictable as well. The big twist was...

Divergent Series: Allegiant (2016) - Review

The third part in the Divergent series, Allegiant continues the story where Insurgent left off, with our heroes now preparing to go beyond the wall and discover the truth. Now I personally enjoyed the previous two parts. Sure they are your typical tween novel adaptation and have most of the cliches and tropes but the execution was good enough for a decent watch. And I was interested to see where the story was headed. Sadly, this movie destroyed all that. Story developed into a convoluted and uninteresting mess, wasting talents like Jeff Daniels and making the lead feel like she's not in the mood to act. I liked Shailene Woodley in the previous parts but here she felt like she's just here to collect the check, for most of the times (There are some good scenes of her). Also, it really bugged me that Miles Teller character got downgraded to the typical asshole again after getting some development in the previous part (*sigh*). There are some good action scenes, but at the...
