Deepwater Horizon (2016) - Movie Review

Deepwater Horizon is a disaster movie based on true events. It is about an offshore drilling rig where things took the turn for the worst, resulting in the largest oil disaster in USA's history. I'm an avid disaster movie fan, and while you do get fictional ones every now and then, getting a well-executed one based on a true story is almost non-existent. Hence, I was very contented when the movie was over. Peter Berg, just like with Lone Survivor, returns to direct with Mark Wahlberg as the lead in another based-on-a-true-story movie. And in a similar fashion, the movie spends a hefty amount of time on the first act, setting up the characters and location etc, leading up to the climactic release. The screen-time was distributed properly, no one character hogged all the time and apart from the setup, no focus to lovey-dovey stuff was given, all of which contributed to a solid first act. The acting was good all around. Mark Wahlberg did a good job (great at t...

Steve Jobs (2015) - Review

"Musicians play their instruments. I play the orchestra." So Steve Jobs is another biopic, but more of a drama, about apple's founder of the same name. This time, Danny Boyle took the helm along with the writer Aaron Sorking (Writer of Social Network too), and the duo really delivered. Micheal Fassbender plays as Steve Jobs and oh man was he good in his role. A terrific job on Jobs ( :p ) by him, loved his acting. He even tuned his voice to sound more like Jobs' and that really made it feel like you're watching Steve Jobs instead of Micheal Fassbender, now that's how you portray someone. Alongside him, we got a great supporting cast. Kate Winslet was excellent in her role as Steve Jobs' advertising agent, and they had great chemistry. Jeff Daniels was also really great, and so was Seth Rogen, this dude once again proved he can do dramatic roles. Loved him as Steve Wozniak. Now the movie wasn't a typical biopic. It was wholly comprised of backsta...

Jobs (2013) - Review

Jobs is a biopic about Steve Jobs and his early years and how he came to create Apple and all the struggle etc involved in it. Ashton Kutcker played Steve Jobs in it. And he was kinda in between, and by that I mean there were some aspects where he worked well, like his mannerism and body language. But at the same time, especially in more dramatic scenes, he just came off as trying too hard failed to make you believe you're watching Steve Jobs. And it was off-putting. The rest of the cast mostly worked well in their roles though. I really like watching biopics which show how popular people reached their success, what was it like in earlier years, their hardships etc. And in that respect, I kinda enjoyed that part of the movie. BUT Many of the stuff was really rushed and the movie wasn't sure how to portray Jobs correctly. It couldn't find a balance between showing him a as a dick or this genius entrepreneur. And resulted it in a bit of a mess, where you're like why is...
